about

Original Sin is the lead single on the upcoming record 𝘔𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘔𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳. This track is a rip-roarin', bright and buoyant indie rocker, complete with jangly piano, dreamy slide guitar, and a drunken-choir gang vocal that brings it all home. The lyrical themes are a good-natured (but honest) critique of the religious concept of 'sin-nature', with a dash of playful wry humor, and earnest hopefulness.

lyrics

{Vs 1}
Well we're counting our chickens, before they hatch
Pretending like we found a perfect match
I’ve got an ego itch that I just can’t scratch,
but maybe you can save me

{Vs 2}
Hey there human, well how ya doin’,
You know I got a lot of love to give
Yeah I may look like the oppressor
I see your stress but put me to the test,
And I hope you’ll see,
You and me we’re kin (way way back when)

{Chorus 1}
Cause that good old American dream,
just a treadmill of privilege and preoccupation (keep it going)
With one holy day a week of apathetic upward exaltation (your bible’s showing)
Blindly we’re rejecting the idea of original goodness
But yes we’re accepting this fallenness
We’re keeping the faith of original sin
(We’re lost in a spin...)

{Vs 3}
These memories don’t add up
I know they’ll chalk it up to bad luck
But I still got a future, Still got a heart
Gonna persevere through the pitch black dark
So grab a light, keep the fire alive, I don’t fear the question, I ain’t afraid to die
My only worry is that the truth will stay
So deep down hidden away
and you’ll keep runnin’ back to
original sin
(It’s all illusion)

{Bridge}
The sacrificial flood of nationalistic love
Some say we’re doing our civic duty for holy father capitalism
We think we get washed clean
By the tide of mindless screens
We all got an opinion but it’s through a billion lenses
Our captive hearts convicted
While our brains are getting so thin
Baptized in the blood and born again
Into original sin

{Chorus 2}
That good old American dream,
A treadmill to pull us from pain into pleasure and endless vacation
Maybe one day we’ll see
That we’re not the sun but there’s oneness among this rotation
Ever growing like a branch from the tree of divinity
Planted in the soil, the soil of original goodness

{Outro}
Let’s bless this mess, and put it to rest
Cause we can keep on, keep on, keep on keepin’ the faith...
...without original sin!
